Bloomfield HS boys’ basketball team posts wins

BLOOMFIELD – Najeem Wilson scored 15 points and fellow junior Myles Toppin had 12 points to lead the Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 56-29 win over Montclair Kimberley Academy on Jan. 28.

Francis Lorenzo, a junior, had 10 points and freshman Mike Ramos had five points for the Bengals.

Wilson scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Bengals to a 50-49 win at Nutley on Jan. 29. Toppin had 13 points and junior Al-Samad Henderson had 10 for the Bengals, who outscored Nutley, 13-5, in the second quarter to erase a 14-10 deficit at the end of the first quarter for a 23-19 halftime lead.

With the two straight wins, the Bengals improved to a 6-9 record. The 70th Essex County Tournament was scheduled to begin this Saturday, Feb. 6. The tournament seeding meeting was scheduled for Feb. 1 and the bracket was scheduled to be released Feb. 2.
