Bloomfield HS boys’ basketball team tops Sparta; notches second straight 20-win season

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Richie Guillaume scored 21 points and Michael Ramos scored 18 points to lead the Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 59-48 home win over Sparta on Feb. 23. Kyle Barrow had 15 points and Will Robinson added four points for the Bengals, who improved to a 20-6 record. Sparta fell to 15-8.

The Bengals, under head coach Pat Brunner, have achieved back-to-back 20-win seasons since 1976 and 1977. Last season, the Bengals won the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state tournament championship for the first time since 1977 en route to finishing with a 24-6 record.

The Bengals, seeded ninth, will defend its North 1, Group 4 title. BHS visit No. 8 seed Fair Lawn in the first round on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. The winner will face the winner of top-seeded Randolph and No. 16 seed Passaic County Tech in the quarterfinals March 1.

Brunner is in his 13th season as the Bengals head coach.
