Bloomfield HS boys’ basketball team wins Glen Ridge Holiday tournament title

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated People’s Prep and Glen Ridge to win the Glen Ridge Holiday tournament title.

Junior guard Vinny Torrisi scored 22 points and senior forward Will Robinson had four points in the 65-29 win over People’s Prep on Dec. 27.

Torrisi had 17 points and senior guard Tochi Anyanwu had 16 points in the 66-37 win over Glen Ridge on Dec. 28. Sophomore guard Vernon Lee and senior forward Gael Refuse each had eight points; senior center Isiah McCallam had six points and senior forward Kevin Mitchell had five points and eight rebounds as the Bengals improved to 5-2 overall on the season.

The Bengals defeated Orange, 55-44, at home Dec. 18 in a SEC game. Torrisi and Robinson each had 11 points; McCallam and Anyanwu each had nine points and senior guard Basheer Saleem had six points. McCallam also had 10 rebounds.

Robinson had 16 points and Anyanwu had 11 points in the 48-45 comeback win over East Orange on Dec. 20 at East Orange. BHS rallied with a 17-12 fourth quarter. McCalam had eight points.

Bloomfield lost to Clifton, 51-49, in overtime Dec. 22 at Clifton. Clifton outscored Bloomfield, 7-5, in overtime. Robinson had 16 points; Vernon Lee had 13; and Torrisi had 11. McCallam had six points and Mitchell had five rebounds.
