Bloomfield HS boys’ soccer team wins on penalty kicks over Newark Tech to advance in ECT

BLOOMFIELD (corrected Monday Oct. 17, 9:49 a.m.)  – The Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity soccer team, seeded 17th, defeated No. 16 seed Newark Tech on penalty kicks in the second preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Newark.

The game was scoreless after regulation and overtime. The game was decided by penalty kicks, which was won by Bloomfield, 3-2. The two teams received a bye in the first preliminary round.

The Bengals, who moved to a 1-12-2 record, will take on top-seeded and defending champion Seton Hall Prep in the first round on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. at Livingston High School.
