Bloomfield HS boys’ volleyball is No. 3 seed in North Jersey Section 1 tournament

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity volleyball, which won the Essex County Tournament title and Super Essex Conference-American Division title, hopes to add a state championship this season as the Bengals received the No. 3 seed in the state North Jersey Section 1 tournament.

The Bengals will host No. 14 seed Pope John in the first round on May 24. The winner will face the winner between No. 11 seed Dover and No. 6 seed Bergen Catholic in the quarterfinals on May 26. The semifinals are June 1. The final is June 3.

The top seed is Fair Lawn. Wayne Valley is the No. 2 seed.

The Bengals defeated North 13th Street Tech, 25-20, 25-17, May 17, to improve to a 23-3 record. Khalil Naouai had 14 kills and five digs; Jose Bruno-Maldonado had 19 assists; Zac Pekar had six digs; and Noel Shaji had three kills and three digs to lead the Bengals.
