Bloomfield HS boys’ volleyball team advances to ECT semifinals; moves to 11-0 on season

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity volleyball team improved to an 11-0 record this season with a 25-23, 25-19 win over Science Park in the Essex County Tournament quarterfinals on April 27 at BHS.

Khalil Naouai had 14 kills and four digs; Jose Bruno-Maldonado had 19 assists and four digs; Kyle Barrow had eight digs; two blocks, two assists and two kills; Noel Shaji had seven digs and four kills; Marc Matthieu had three assists; Romello Fairclouth had two kills, one dig and one block and Zac Pekar had one dig for the third-seeded Bengals. Science Park was seeded sixth.

The Bengals will visit second-seeded North 13th Street Tech in the semifinals on April 30 at 2 p.m.

North 13th Street Tech defeated seventh-seeded Montclair in the quarterfinals to improve to a 13-1 record.

The other semifinal pits No. 5 seed Millburn at No. 1 seed Livingston.

Livingston defeated No. 8 seed Bloomfield Tech, 25-18, 25-19, and Millburn defeated No. 4 seed Belleville, 25-19, 25-22, in the quarterfinals.

The final is Friday, May 6, at Bloomfield HS at 7 p.m.
