Bloomfield HS boys’ volleyball team captures Essex County Tournament championship

BLOOMFIELD – Khalil Naouai had 14 kills and six digs and Noel Shaji had seven kills and four digs as the second-seeded Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity volleyball team defeated top-seeded Livingston, 25-14, 29-27, to capture the Essex County Tournament championship on Friday, May 6, at Bloomfield High School.

Jose Bruno-Maldonado had 26 assists and five digs; Al-Samad Henderson had four kills and five blocks; Andy Murillo had three kills, three blocks and seven digs and Zac Pekar posted five digs for the Bengals, who improved to a 17-1 record.

Shaji also had three aces and Bruno-Maldonado had two aces.

The Bengals, under head coach Louis Stevens, won their fifth ECT title. In fact, they have never lost in a ECT final, winning it in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010, in addition to this year.
