BLOOMFIELD – A week after winning the Essex County Tournament championship, the Bloomfield High School boys’ varsity volleyball team clinched the Super Essex Conference-American Division championship for the first time in program history with a 25-14, 29-27 win at Livingston on May 13. Khalil Naouai had 12 kills and seven digs; Jose Bruno-Maldonado had 22 assists; Kyle Barrow had six digs and Noel Shaji had eight kills to lead the Bengals, who improved to a 22-3 record. BHS defeated Livingston to win the ECT title on May 6.
The Bengals defeated Barringer, 25-8, 25-11, May 9, and defeated Newark Tech, 25-7, 25-14, May 10. The Bengals went 1-2 during a quad meet at St. Joseph of Metuchen on May 11 as they lost to the host school, 25-17, 25-20, lost to Harrison, 27-29, 25-19, 25-18 and defeated Bridgewater-Raritan, 25-18, 11-25, 28-26. Harrison was ranked No. 1 in the state and Bridgewater-Raritan was ranked No. 3 in the state. The Bengals are ranked No. 14 in the state.
