Bloomfield HS boys’ volleyball team falls to Wayne Valley in North Jersey Section 1 tournament semifinals to end magnificent 25-4 season

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity boys’ volleyball team finished a magnificent season after losing to second-seeded Wayne Valley, 25-12, 25-21, in the state North Jersey Section 1 tournament semifinals on June 1.

Senior Khalil Naouai had 13 kills and four digs; junior Jose Bruno-Maldonado had 19 assists and two digs; junior Zac Pekar had three digs and one ace; junior Al-Samad Henderson had seven kills and one block; sophomore Kyle Barrow added two assists, one kill and one dig; senior Noel Shaji chipped in one ace, one kill, one block and one dig; and junior Marc Mathieu added one block for the third-seeded Bengals.

Under longtime head coach Louis Stevens, the Bengals finished the season with a stellar 25-4 record. The Bengals also won the Essex County Tournament championship and won the Super Essex Conference-American Division title this season.
