BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Charles Lisa won the boys pole vault event to lead the Bloomfield High School track and field teams at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 state championships at Livingston High School field on Friday and Saturday, May 31-June 1.
Lisa, a senior, leaped 12 feet, 6 inches. Junior teammate Nicholas Obiedzinski took fourth place in the same event at 11-6.
The BHS teams had other strong efforts.
On the boys side, sophomore Maxwell Hatton took sixth place in the javelin at 136-2. Alexander Travers, a junior, took seventh place in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.48. In the triple jump, sophomore Ruben Pierre took seventh place at 40-2 ½ and sophomore Lennox McPherson-Abrams took eighth place at 39-9 ½. Jeremy Tejada, a sophomore, took eight place in the 110-meter hurdles in 21.65.
On the girls side, junior Meredes Cruz-Fletcher took second place (15.19) and freshman Alana Dennis took fifth place (15.85) in the 100-meter hurdles.
Victoria Feliciano, a senior, took second place in the javelin at 100-6.
The 4×100-meter relay team took third place in 50.48. The 4×800 relay took fourth place in 10:14.65. In the 100-meter dash, Dennis took fourth place (12.71) and senior Samyah Wilson took seventh place (12.96).
Candace Chapman, a senior, took fourth place in the shot put at 35-5 ¾.
Angel Cruz-Fletcher, a senior, took sixth place in the triple jump at 33-5 and she took seventh place in the long jump at 16-11.
Thalia Bell, a sophomore, took sixth place in the discus at 104-4.
Dennis took eighth place in the 200-meter dash in 26.30.
The top-six finishers in each event qualified for the Group 4 state championships at Franklin High School in Somerset on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8.
