Bloomfield HS cross-country teams give solid county efforts

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield High School boys and girls cross-country teams gave solid efforts at the Essex County Championships at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield on Friday, Nov. 1.

The boys team finished in 10th place in the team standings among the 21 schools. Seton Hall Prep won the boys team title.

Luca Ponticello, a senior, took 26th place in 17:00.30 among the 154 runners to lead the Bengals.

Quaid Mullane, a junior, placed 30th in 17:02.20; junior Brendan Heaney was 68th in 18:42.90; sophomore Fernlee Aquino was 80th in 19:03.40; senior Dominic Dominguez finished 85th in 19:18.30; senior Matthew Garth was 104th in 20:07.00 and sophomore Emilio Vasquez was 122nd in 21:17.80.

On the girls’ side, senior Lizbeth Morocho placed 20th in 21:00.00 among the 115 runners to lead BHS.

Amanda Giunta, a senior, was 40th in 21:49.90 and fellow senior Alanna Espinal was 57th in 22:26.90. Juniors Kayla Valente, Julie Caro and Cassandra McCulloch and senior Nayanka Cajuste were other BHS finishers. Bloomfield finished in 12th place in the team standings among the 15 schools. Montclair won the girls team title.

The Bengals will gear up for the North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Championships at Garret Mountain in Woodland Park on Saturday, Nov. 9.
