BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams have high hopes with a solid group of experienced runners this season.

The boys’ team will enter the Liberty Division of the Super Essex Conference. Among the returnees are seniors Adam Mahabub and Brandon Copeck, and junior La’Shan White.

“White is poised to make a breakout season having competed with DownUnder sports in Australia this summer,” said BHS head coach Leo Donaldson. “The two seniors are daily pushing each other to be number one on the team and always strive toward personal bests. A strong group of dedicated athletes is excited about an opportunity to be very competitive in the Liberty Division.”

The girls’ team is led by junior Mackenzie Prezume, and sophomores Camrynn Referente and Da-Xia Colon, who are eager to take on the challenge of their new division opponents in the American Division.

“Prezume had an outstanding outdoor track season, taking home individual county and sectional titles in the 800-meters,” Donaldson said. “Referente and Colon had great freshmen seasons throughout the year and are looking forward to stepping it up a notch during this upcoming season.

“The girls’ team has an astounding 23 girls this year and is definitely one of our largest girls’ teams ever. Coach (Chris) Romano and I have very high hopes for this great group of girls.”

The Bengals will open the season Sept. 8 at Branch Brook Park, as the boys will face Verona and Irvington, while the girls will run against Newark Academy, Caldwell and Nutley.

The Bengals then will host the Brookdale Invitational at Brookdale Park on Sept. 10.
