BLOOMFIELD, NJ (updated Monday Oct. 24, 1:35 p.m.) – As the varsity cross-country teams get amped up for the Essex County Championship on Friday Oct. 28, Bloomfield High School had great performances at the Essex County Track Coaches Association Class Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15, with the Junior boys’ team taking second place overall and the Senior boys, led by Adam Mahabub, taking third overall.

Mahabub ran an astounding 17:03, setting a new BHS course record at Branch Brook Park, since the establishment of the Super Essex Conference.  The previous record of 17:15 was set by Alec Duncan in 2010.

The boys and girls faced off against Nutley, Cedar Grove and Belleville on Wednesday, Oct. 19,  at Yantacaw Park.  The boys’ team decided to sport throwback uniforms from the 2008 cross-country team.  Dressed all in red, the Bengal boys harriers captured first place, scoring 28 points to Nutley’s 38.  Cedar Grove scored 73 and Belleville scored 102. There were several medal winners on the day.  The finish order was Mahabub, La’Shan White, Brandon Copeck, Enrique Campos, Jason Martin, Evan Fitzhenry and Raja Zaman. The top 10 athletes in each race earned a medal. The junior varsity boys, led by the trio of junior Mark Cabrera, senior Hazem Metwally, and freshman D’Isaiah Larrea, took first place as well. The Varsity, led by Da-Xia Colon, and the JV girls, led by Amanda Giunta, placed second overall.
