BLOOMFIELD — The Bloomfield High School football team has turned around its season.
The Bengals won their second straight game with an impressive 51-19 win at Kearny on Oct. 8. After losing their first four games of the season, the Bengals now are 2-4.
Senior running back Jaden Adkins ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries and sophomore running back Jonathan Nicol had 119 rushing yards on seven carries to lead the Bengals.
Bloomfield trailed 6-0 before senior slotback DJ Noble scored on a 50-yard TD run in the first quarter to tie it 6-6.
Junior wide receiver Nathaniel Brown returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and Noble caught the two-point conversion pass from senior quarterback Charles Abplanalp to give the Bengals a 14-6 lead in the first quarter.
The Bengals broke the game open with three touchdowns in the second quarter. Adkins ran for a 55-yard TD run to make it 20-6. Junior running back Jayden Evans had a 13-yard TD run to extend it to 26-6. Adkins had an 11-yard TD run for a 32-6 lead. Kearny scored on a TD pass at the end of the quarter to cut it to 32-12.
In the third quarter, Adkins had a 38-yard TD run to make it 38-12 and freshman running back Jayden Clydesdale had a 6-yard TD run for a 44-12 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Kearny scored a TD on a pass. Bloomfield closed out the scoring on junior Lavon Barrett’s 4-yard TD run.
Evans finished with nine carries for 60 yards and a TD and Noble finished with three carries for 59 yards and a score.
Defensively, junior Xavier Calderon had eight tackles and Adkins had six tackles for the Bengals.
Bloomfield will host Columbia on Oct. 15 at Foley Field at 7 p.m. Columbia is 3-3 this season.
