BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield High School football team defeated Belleville, 29-8, Friday, Oct. 20, at Belleville High School’s Municipal Stadium/Doc Ellis field for their second straight victory.
Senior quarterback Trevor Frantantoni completed nine of 16 passes for 133 yards, including a TD pass to senior Jonathan Nichol.
The Bengals rushed for a total of 169 yards on 29 carries for a 5.8 yards per carry average. Senior Wayne Oliphant ran for 52 yards on 10 carries. Frantantoni rushed five times for 39 yards and a TD. Nichol finished with four carries for 25 yards and a touchdown. Junior Mekhi Field had two rushes for 23 yards and junior Alejandro Valencia had six carries for 23 yards and a TD. Junior Sebastian Urena had two carries for 7 yards.
Nichol also finished with two catches for 43 yards, including the TD. Senior Landon Andino had three catches for 23 yards, senior Elijah Valentin had one catch for 39 yards, Urena had one catch for 17 yards and junior James Fields had two catches for 11 yards.
Defensively, junior linebacker Anthony Pope and LB Valencia each had seven tackles; defensive back Urena, junior lineman David Holmes and senior lineman Wil Cordero each had five tackles; freshman safety Mike Mickens and sophomore lineman Tyler Frantantoni each had one interception; and junior lineman DJ Coltenback had one fumble recovery.
The Bengals will host North Bergen on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in the season finale in a state consolation game. North Bergen is 3-5.
