Bloomfield HS girls’ basketball team clinches Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division title

Lady Bengals finish 12-0 in division

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School girls’ varsity basketball team defeated Caldwell, 58-52, at home on Feb. 26 in the regular-season finale to clinch the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division with an undefeated divisional record.

Junior guard Grace Cannon had 24 points, four assists and four rebounds; senior forward Aniyah Allen had 18 points and 14 rebounds; junior guard Genesis Collins had six points and five assists; sophomore guard Raquel Plata had five points; and senior guard Samantha Corio had four points, three assists and three steals for the Bengals, who improved to 18-4 overall.

BHS finished 12-0 in the SEC-Colonial Division.

The third-seeded Bengals will host 14th-seeded West Orange in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament on March 1. The winner will face either No. 11 seed Morris Knolls or No. 6 seed Paterson Eastside in the quarterfinals on March 3.

Bloomfield lost to West Orange, 49-46, in overtime in the Essex County Tournament first round on Feb. 13. Since then, the Bengals have won four straight games.
