BLOOMFIELD, NJ – Samantha Columna had 24 points with seven rebounds, three asssits and three rebounds to lead the 12th-seeded Bloomfield High School girls varsity basketball team to a 73-32 win over No. 28 seed Montclair Kimberley Academy in the preliminary third round of the Essex County Tournament, Feb. 7 at home.
Sarah Edmond had 13 points; Melina Hidalgo had 12 points and nine rebounds; Lucy Heyman had four points and 12 rebounds; Chiara Hilario and Aliyah Sanchez each had six points and Camrynn Referente had four points.
The Bengals won their fifth game in a row to improve to 14-5. They will visit No. 5 seed Immaculate Conception of Montclair in the first round (round of 16) Feb. 9 at noon. The winner will face the winner between No. 4 Newark Arts and No. 13 Newark Academy in the quarterfinals Feb. 16.
It marks the third meeting between Bloomfield and Immaculate Conception. Immaculate defeated Bloomfield in the previous two meetings, 57-45 on Dec. 20 at Immaculate and 70-51, Jan. 26 at BHS.
