Bloomfield HS girls’ basketball team enjoys fine 4-1 start to season

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School girls’ varsity basketball team has enjoyed a stellar start to the season.

The Bengals participated in the annual Glen Ridge Holiday Tournament, beating both People’s Prep and Glen Ridge to improve to a 4-1 overall record on the season.

Senior Sarah Edmond had 21 points, 10 steals and nine rebounds and junior Samantha Columna had 15 points, eight steals, four rebounds and four assists in the 75-16 win over People’s Prep. Freshman Chiara Hilario had nine points; senior Camrynn Referente had eight points and junior Gina Perrotta pulled down seven rebounds and added two points. Sophomore Casey Dolan had three points and five rebounds; and freshman Ashley Martinez had three points.

Columna had 13 points and Edmond had 10 in the 34-31 win over Glen Ridge on Dec. 29. Freshman Lucy Heyman and Hilario each had four points and Referente hit a three-pointer for her lone points.

Referente scored 14 points to lead the Bengals to a 37-36 win over Newark Collegiate in a SEC game on Dec. 18. Edmond had nine points and 13 rebounds and Columna had nine points, six assists, five steals and five rebounds. Hilario had seven points and four rebounds and Heyman had five rebounds in the win.

Columna had 18 points and five steals in the 57-45 loss to Immaculate Conception on Dec. 20 in a SEC game. Hilario had 11 points; Edmond had eight points and 15 rebounds and Referente had five points and six rebounds.
