Bloomfield HS girls basketball team notches victories

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Bloomfield High School girls basketball team defeated Bard and Montclair High School in consecutive games.

The Bengals defeated Bard, 55-21, Wednesday, Feb. 14, at home. Senior guard Aniya Brown had 15 points, junior guard Gabrielle Kot had 13, senior center Michelle Hernnadez had 8, senior forward Maya Mickens had 6 and sophomore Sophie Harvey had 4 for the Bengals.

Bloomfield defeated Montclair, 43-38, in overtime on Thursday, Feb.15, at home. Brown had 13 points, Mickens and junior guard Ava Barker each had 9, junior guard Mia Gonzalez had 6, Kot had 4 and Henandez added 2.

The 15th-seeded Bengals, who improved to 12-11 on the season, will visit No. 2 seed Morristown High School in the first round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 state tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 21. The winner will face either No. 7 seed Kearny or No. 10 seed Fair Lawn High School in the quarterfinals on Monday, Feb. 26. The semifinals are Wednesday, Feb. 28.
