Bloomfield HS girls’ soccer players earn All-Area honors

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School girls’ varsity soccer team posted one of its best seasons in program history.

The Bengals, under third-year head coach Toni Setteducato, finished with a stellar 16-4-1 record, winning the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division championship with an undefeated mark of 14-0.

The following BHS players have earned Worrall Media All-Area honors:

• Nora Boussatta, senior midfielder, 11 goals and seven assists this season.
• Natalia Colasurdo, senior midfielder, team-high 14 assists.
• Anatalia Pena, sophomore forward, team-high 18 goals, four assists.
• Taylor Langhirt, senior forward, 17 goals, seven assists.
• Adeline Argabrite, senior goalkeeper, 84 saves, 16-4-1 record
• Jen Schlageter, senior defender, four goals, four assists.
• Abby Tirador, senior midfielder, six goals, five assists.
• Melanie Rodriguez, freshman defender, two goals, three assists.

In addition, Boussatta, Schlageter, Pena and Argabrite made First Team; Colasurdo, Langhirt, and Tirador made Second Team; and Rodriguez made Honorable Mention on the All-SEC-Colonial Division.

In the Essex County Tournament, the 13th-seeded Bengals defeated 12th-seeded Mount Saint Dominic, 1-0, in the preliminary round on a goal by Langhirt, before losing to fifth-seeded Nutley, 1-0, in the first round.

In the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament, the second-seeded Bengals lost a heartbreaking penalty-kick shootout decision to 15th-seeded West Orange in the first round. The game was scoreless through regulation and two overtimes before West Orange prevailed in the penalty-kick shootout, 4-2, to end the Bengals’ season.

Though they will lose a strong senior class, the Bengals hope to continue their success next year, with Pena and Rodriguez leading the way.
