BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School varsity girls’ tennis team hopes to have a successful season.
The Bengals, under longtime head coach Ron Masson, will open the season Thursday, Sept. 6, at home against East Orange Campus HS at the Pulaski Park courts.
Bloomfield has moved up to the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division.
Aira Abalos, a sophomore, returns at the first singles position.
“She is a very talented tennis player who was undefeated in the Liberty Division last year,” Masson said.
Two returners from last year will be competing for the second and third singles positions. They are sophomore Lila Matulac and junior Priyal Gajera.
Kaylee Prieto (grade 12) and Ashley Cruz, both seniors, are the captains. They each saw some varsity action last year.
Also competing for the varsity are seniors Amaya Brown, Gentiah McKinley Brown, and Sophia Zaman, and junior Vanessa Chin.
“At this point, we are still figuring out our lineup,” Masson said. “We do not have varsity experience at any position other than Aira at first singles.”
