Bloomfield HS girls’ volleyball team falls to Columbia in state tournament

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The 26th-seeded Bloomfield High School varsity girls’ volleyball team fell to 39th-seeded Columbia, 25-23, 13-25, 25-22, in the preliminary round of the NJSIAA Group 4 state tournament at BHS on Monday, Oct. 30.

Senior Megan Alicea had 13 digs; senior Kourtni Carty had 31 assists and seven digs; junior Sarah Edmond had 10 kills and four digs; and senior Melissa Marte had 13 kills, seven digs and three assists for Bloomfield.

Junior Sarah Pierre had eight kills and two blocks; senior Rachelle Ramirez posted six digs; junior Lara Rios had five digs and sophomore Sheyenne Williams had two kills and two blocks for the Lady Bengals, who finished the season with a solid 13-8 record, including winning the co-championship of the Super Essex Conference-Liberty Division title. Bloomfield and West Orange shared the title.

In the Essex County Tournament quarterfinals, sixth–seeded Bloomfield lost at third-seeded Livingston, 25-11, 25-10, Oct. 24.
