Bloomfield HS girls’ volleyball team tops Montclair for third straight win

MONTCLAIR – The Bloomfield High School varsity girls’ volleyball team rallied to beat Montclair for its third straight victory.

Senior setter/co-captain Kourtni Carty had 22 assists and 12 digs; senior outside hitter/co-captain Melissa Mate had 14 kills and 10 digs; and senior outside hitter/opposite Aicha Naoua had 13 digs, four kills and four aces as the Bengals won, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, Oct. 5, in Montclair. Junior middle blocker/opposite Sarah Pierre had six blocks; senior defensive specialist-/libero Megan Alicea had six digs; junior OH/opposite Sarah Edmond had six digs and four kills; sophomore MB Sheyene Williams posted four blocks and sophomore defensive specialist/libero Ciarra Berutti had five digs for the Bengals, who improved to a 7-4 record.

In previous play, the Bengals rallied to defeat West Orange, 21-25, 25-22, 25-15, Sept. 28, at BHS. Carty had 30 assists; Naouai had 13 kills and 13 digs and Marte had 13 kills and 12 digs as the Bengals avenged the season-opening loss to West Orange.

Marte had eight kills and 11 digs and Carty had 13 assists in the 25-14, 25-18 win over West Essex on Oct. 3 in North Caldwell. Naouai recorded seven kills and Alicea notched six digs.
