Bloomfield HS softball team defeats Newark East Side, 13-0

BLOOMFIELD – Jalia Santos went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a double to lead the Bloomfield High School varsity softball team to a 13-0 win over Newark East Side on May 20 at Clarks Pond South in a Super Essex Conference non-division game.

Samantha Corio went 2-for-3 with two doubles; Kasey Coury went 3-for-4 with an RBI; and Crystal Rodriguez and Courtney Politz each had two RBi to lead the Bengals, who improved to 12-13.

Corio pitched three innings with eight strikeouts and Politz pitched two innings with four strikeouts in the five-inning game.

The Bengals, seeded 15th, will visit second-seeded Kearny in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 tournament on May 23.
