BLOOMFIELD – Samantha Corio went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run and Jalia Santos and Mary Haynes each went 2-for-3 with a RBI to lead the Bloomfield High School varsity softball team to a 6-2 win at Montclair on April 6 for its first win of the season. BHS scored one run in the top of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie and tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh. Rachelle Ramirez had a triple and a RBI for BHS. Courtney Politz struck out eight and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits for the win.
The Bengals then lost at Cedar Grove, 5-1, April 8. Ayana Andrade-Zygmunt, Corio, and Santos each went 1-for-4, and Kristina Collins went 1-for-3 with a run for the Bengals.
BHS fell to West Essex, 3-1, at Clarks Pond South on April 11 to move to a 1-4 record.
