BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity softball team defeated Columbia and Lakeland.
Samantha Corio went 4-for-5 with a double, four RBI and two runs and Jaila Santos went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs to lead the Bengals to a 12-5 win over Columbia on April 15 at Meadowland Park field in South Orange.
Ayana Andrade-Zygmunt went 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs; Crystal Rodriguez went 2-for-4; Courtney Politz had a triple and two RBI; and Kasey Coury and Brianna Murray each had a double and an RBI. Politz gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits with eight strikeouts in 6 ⅓ innings.
Corio fired a three-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks and also scored two runs in the 5-1 win over Lakeland on April 16 in Wanaque. Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with two runs; and Coury and Kim Zapata each drove in a run.
BHS fell to Nutley, 9-0, April 18, at Clarks Pond South to move to a -6 record.
In earlier action, BHS lost to Mount Saint Dominic Academy, 12-0, April 13, in Caldwell.
