BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity softball team hopes to make a Cinderella run in the state tournament.
The Bengals, seeded 15th in the 16-team field, will visit No. 2 seed Kearny in the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament on May 23. The winner will face the winner between No. 10 seed Passaic Tech and No. 7 seed Livingston in the quarterfinals on May 25. The semifinals are May 31 and the final is June 3.
The Bengals defeated West Orange, 3-1, May 17, at West Orange in a Super Essex Conference non-division game. Samantha Corio scattered seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks for the win. At the plate, Corio went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kristina Collins went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Jalia Santos had a hit and an RBI for the Bengals, who improved to a 10-13 record.
