BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity softball team, seeded seventh, will host No. 10 seed Verona in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on May 7 at Clarks Pond South at 5 p.m.
Courtney Politz homered and Ayana Andrade-Zygmunt went 2-for-2 with two walks, but the Bengals lost to Cedar Grove, 6-3, April 27, at Clarks Pond South in a Super Essex Conference-American Division game.
Kasey Coury and Rachelle Ramirez each had a hit; and Desiree Ramos walked and scored run for BHS.
Samantha Corio went 2-for-3 with a run and Ramirez went 1-for-3 with two RBI but the Bengals lost to West Essex, 5-3, Friday, April 29, in North Caldwell in a divisional game. Desiree Ramos went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run.
The Bengals then split two games at the Nutley Invitational on April 30, losing to Millburn, 13-3, and beating Linden, 14-9, to move to a 7-11 record.
Politz went 5-for-5 with a homer and five RBI; Jalia Santos went 3-for-4 with a homer, walk, two RBI and two runs; Corio went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two runs; Andrade-Zymunt went 3-for-5 with an RBI; and Ashley Montijo went 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBI. BHS moved to a 7-11 record.
