Bloomfield HS track and field teams give good efforts at Essex County Relays

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams gave good efforts at the Essex County Relays, May 4, at Livingston HS.

The girls’ team finished eighth in the girls’ team standings. The 4×400-meter relay and 4×800-meter relay each finished fourth in 4:03.94 and 10:10.94 respectively, and the 4×100-meter relay and 4×1,600-meter relay each finished fifth in 50.23 and 25:21.20 respectively.

In the team pole vault, Annie Bickmore was seventh at 8 feet and Anatalia Pena was ninth at 7 feet to combine for fourth place. In the team javelin, Aicha Naouai was third at 97 feet-11 inches and Caroline Vigna was 22nd at 68-10 to combine for fourth place. In the team shot put, Noura Kakandendi was eighth at 34-1/2 and Alexis Taylor was 15th at 30-5 1/2 to finish in fifth place.

On the boys’ side, Bloomfield finished in ninth place in the team standings. The 4×400 took third in 3:24.02. The 400-meter team intermediate hurdles relay finished second, led by La’Shan White, who finished third in 54.55. In the team long jump, Brandon Holt was sixth at 19-11 1/4 and Isidoro Gomez-McPherson was 16th. In the team discus, Makaih Ortiz was eighth at 119-5 and Warlys Lizardo was 10th at 115-7 to combine for fifth place. In the team shot put, Mayowa Akindebe was fourth at 47-6 1/4 and Joe Bumpus was 19th at 39-0 to combine for fifth place.

The BHS teams will gear up for the Super Essex Conference Championship on May 11 at Newark Schools Stadium.
