BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams enjoyed stellar performances at the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Championships at Randolph HS, May 27-28.
The girls’ team finished fifth with 42 points among the 18 scoring teams in the girls’ team standings based on the top-six finishes in each event.
The BHS boys’ team finished ninth with 32 points among the 17 scoring teams in the boys’ team standings.
Sophomores Mackenzie Presume and Aicha Naouai and senior Aniya Allen scored the points for the BHS girls’ team.
Presume won the 800-meter run (2:17.03) and took third in the 400-meter dash (57.35).
Allen won the 100-meter high hurdles (14.63) and took second in the high jump at 5 feet.
Naouai was second in the javelin at 117 feet-11 inches.
Sophomore Myles Toppin and junior Brandon Fernandes scored the points for the BHS boys’ team.
Toppin won the high jump at 6-4 and took second in both the long jump (21-8 ¾) and triple jump (44-5). Fernandes took third in the javelin (164-4).
Ridgewood won the boys’ and girls’ team titles.
The top six finishes in each event at the sectionals qualified for the state Group 4 Championships at Egg Harbor, June 3-4.
