BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School girls’ track and field team enjoyed an impressive showing at the Essex County Championships held at Montclair’s Woodman Field, May 18-19.
Under rainy conditions, the Bengals finished fifth in the girls’ team standings with 27 points. Montclair won the girls’ team title for the second straight year.
Kaela Edwards took second in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.73 and placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 12.82, and Mackenzie Prezume finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:22.03 to lead BHS. Prezume and Edwards joined Angellina Ramos and Sheyenne Williams in finishing fourth in the 4×400-meter relay in 4:12.15. Aicha Naouia was second in the javelin at 108 and ninth in the discus at 87-4. Anatalia Pena was ninth in the pole vault at 7 feet.
The BHS boys’ team finished 15th in the boys’ team standings. La’Shan White took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.78 and Mayowa Akindebe took fifth in the shot put at 46-4 ½. White, Michael Wilson, Saif Younas and Rendell Amilcar finished fifth in the 4×400 relay in 3:31.212.
The BHS teams will gear up for the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 State Championships at Clifton, May 25-26.
