Bloomfield HS wrestling team captures Gray Cup

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity wrestling team captured the annual Gray Cup by sweeping Montclair, 51-18, Princeton, 58-21,  and Verona, 40-36, Feb. 6 at BHS.

Former Bengals Mike Freedman, Rashone Johnson and Pete Foster serve as head coaches at Montclair, Princeton, and Verona, respectively. In addition, former Bengals Chris Lantz and Liam Penberthy serve as assistants at Montclair and Verona, respectively.

The sixth-seeded Bengals then lost at third-seeded Hackensack, 52-20, in the quarterfinals of the state North Jersey Section 1, Group 5 tournament on Feb. 8 to move to an 11-12 record. The Bengals will gear up for the district tournament, Feb. 19-20, in Livingston.
