Bloomfield HS wrestling team captures Gray Cup title

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield High School wrestling team hosted its annual Gray Cup, Feb. 2, defeating Columbia, 44-30, and Verona, 42-31, to win the Cup title.

The Bengals improved to a 19-5 record this season.

In previous action, the Bengals defeated Millburn, 53-12, at Millburn, Jan. 30, and defeated Hackettstown, 46-18, Jan. 31 at home.

The Bengals, seeded third, were scheduled to host No. 6 seed Livingston in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 5 state tournament Feb. 4. The winner will face the winner between No. 7 Montclair and No. 2 Montclair in the semifinals Feb. 6. The other quarterfinal matchups pit No. 8 Morristown at No. 1 Passaic County Tech and No. 5 West Orange at No. 4 North Bergen. The final is Feb. 8.
