Bloomfield HS wrestling team finishes fourth at District 14 Tournament, led by four champions

BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield High School varsity wrestling team had a good showing at the District 14 Tournament at Livingston High School on Feb. 20.

The Bengals finished fourth among the nine teams. Nutley won the district team title for the fifth straight year. West Orange was second and Livingston took third. 

The Bengals boasted four individual champions: Pablo Estevez (126-pound weight class), Barak Pipkins (170), Noel Eustaquio (195) and Adam Lutick (220).

The third-place finishers for the Bengals were Kevin Adorno (113), Elijah Hernandez (160), and David Broderick (285).

Finals

126: Estevez major decisioned Colin Morgan, West Orange, 9-0.

170: Pipkins major decisioned Sebastian Rawls, West Orange, 14-5.

195: Eustaquio pinned Sam Mellow, Montclair,5:35

220: Lutick decisioned Sabino Coppola, Nutley, 3-2 ultimate tiebreaker.

Third-place consolations

113: Adorno decisioned John Hickey, Nutley, 4-3.

160: Hernandez major decisioned Paul Silvestri, Livingston, 12-3.

285: Broderick decisioned Ben Smullyan, Montclair, 3-2, double overtime.

The seven BHS wrestlers will advance to the Region 4 Tournament at West Orange High School, Feb. 24, 26-27.
