BLOOMFIELD – The Bloomfield U14 Cheetah Thunder boys’ soccer team is one win from a national championship.
The team advanced to the United States Youth Soccer President’s Cup Finals in Tulsa, Ok. They will play Sunday, July 17, against North Texas Azteca.
Bloomfield’s path to the USYS President’s Cup Finals has been long – starting back in September 2015 with play in the New Jersey Youth Soccer’s President’s Cup tournament. Five victorious matches against Montgomery, Scotch Plains-Fanwood, Clifton Stallions, Westfield Premier, and Swedesboro-Woolwich SA in the NJYS Final advanced Bloomfield to the Regionals as NJYS Champions.
The Cheetah Thunder represented New Jersey at the USYS Region 1 President’s Cup Championship this past Memorial Day. There they came out on top in games against teams representing USYS President’s Cup Champions from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia to take the USYS Region 1 championship representing the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic United States.
They flew to Tulsa on Wednesday, July 13. Victories against Regional Champions USYS Region 2 Chicago Fire, and Region 4 Utah Fire SC on Thursday and Friday, July 14-15, respectively, placed them in the championship game against North Texas Azteca on Sunday. The journey has been 10 months long to get here
The Finals will be streamed live by USYS.
