NUTLEY – Senior right fielder and Rutgers University-bound Anthony Condito went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and three runs and freshman shortstop Marty Higgins was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Nutley High School varsity baseball team to a 7-4 win against Bloomfield High School under the lights on April 22 in a Super Essex Conference-American Division game at Bloomfield Middle School field.
Senior third baseman Andrew Santos and senior center fielder Andrew Connor each had a double and an RBI; sophomore catcher Raul Ortega had a hit and an RBI: senior second baseman Matt Butler was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs; and senior Domenic Palumbo had a double for the Raiders, who won their second straight game and improved to a 7-5 record.
Senior John Lawton allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in three innings for the win.
In their previous game, Condito went 2-for-3 with a double, homer, two runs and three RBI; Higgins went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI; and senior Nick Miller went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs and three RBI in the 12-1 home win over Montclair on April 20 in a divisional game. Junior Jake Ramezanna drove in two runs. Senior Nick Senatore threw a five-inning one-hitter.
The Raiders have won seven of the last nine games after starting the season 0-3.
Bloomfield was led by junior Roger Garcia (3-for-3, RBI, walk), senior Luis Rullan (2-for-3, RBI, two stolen bases), senior Dionisios Bello (1-for-3, walk, run, stolen base), junior Joe Giliberti (three walks), junior Danny Carter (1-for-3, run, walk), and sophomore Ed Abplanalp (1-for-3). The Bengals moved to a 5-6 record.
Nutley and Bloomfield have split the two divisional meetings this season. Bloomfield defeated Nutley, 11-4, in the teams’ second game of the season on April 2 at the Park Oval in Nutley.
