BLOOMFIELD, NJ (updated Tuesday Oct. 24, 11:49 a.m.) – Senior running back Jeremy Whitherspoon ran for three touchdowns and the Bloomfield High School varsity football team returned to its winning ways with a 31-20 win over East Orange Campus on Friday night, Oct. 20, at Foley Field.
The Bengals, who rallied from 14-0 and 20-6 deficits in the first half, snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to a 3-3 record. East Orange Campus lost its third straight game to move to a 3-3 record.
Whitherspoon had two TDs runs of 3 yards and 1 yard in the second quarter and scored on another 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Lenny Mumford scored on a 15-yard run in the first quarter and Brandon Holt scored on a 31-yard TD pass from quarterback Kyle Tice in the fourth quarter for the Bengals.
The Jaguars scored all their touchdowns in the first half. Rady Rojas scored on a 4-yard run. Rojas threw a 31-yard TD pass to Andre Higgs. Rojas also threw a 40-yard TD pass to Carney.
Defensively for the Bengals, senior lineman Joe Pentz had seven tackles with one sack; senior defensive back Rouby Metellus had seven tackles with an interception; Jeremiah Askins had six tackles with an interception; and junior linebacker Andrew Terc and senior lineman Chris Lazard each had six tackles.
The Bengals will visit Bayonne (4-3) on Oct. 27, at 7 p.m.
