WEST ORANGE, NJ (updated Saturday Sept. 30, 11:05 a.m.) – The West Orange High School varsity football team defeated Bloomfield High School, 34-18, Thursday night, Sept. 28, at West Orange HS Joe Suriano Stadium in a North Jersey Super Football Conference-Liberty Blue Division game.
The Mountaineers won their second straight game to move to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the division. Bloomfield lost its second straight to fall to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the division.
C.J. Wilson rushed for 178 yards on 14 carries and scored on runs of 4 yards and 40 yards to lead the Mountaineers.
Quarterback Vincent DeSantis threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Jordan White and Bryan Reitberger kicked field goals of 32 yards and 29 yards and also added four extra-point kicks for the Mountaineers. L’trell Bradley had a 33-yard TD run and had 12 tackles and two interceptions on defense for WOHS.
Senior running back Jeremy Whitherspoon scored two touchdowns for the Bengals on runs of 4 yards in the third quarter and 1 yard in the fourth quarter. Will Robinson, a junior, returned a fumble 17 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter for the Bengals. Offensively, Robinson had seven catches for 145 yards and John Ridley had four catches for 16 yards for BHS.
The Mountaineers will host Morristown on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7p.m.
The BHS Bengals are idle next week and will return to action Friday, Oct. 13 when they visit Livingston at 7 p.m.ck
