EAST ORANGE – Marvellous Osagie-Erese scored 14 points and Brianna Mills had 12 points to lead the top-seeded and defending champion East Orange Campus High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 54-34 win over eighth-seeded West Orange in the quarterfinals of the Essex County Tournament on Feb. 20 at EOCHS.
Barbara Jackson had nine points; Moriyah Jordan had eight points; Sahara Crawford had seven; and Lauren Lewter and Lakel Willis each had two for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars will meet fourth-seeded Shabazz in the ECT semifinals doubleheader at Weequahic HS in Newark on Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. The other semifinal pits third-seeded University against seventh-seeded Newark Tech at 7 p.m. The final is Feb. 27 at Essex County College at 3 p.m.
Jackson had 13 points; Mills had 11 points; and Osagie-Erese had eight points and 12 assists in the 51-29 home win over Mount Saint Dominic Academy on Feb. 22 in a Super Essex Conference-American Division game. EOCHS moved to a 17-3 record.
In previous action, the Jaguars lost to Shabazz, 39-35, Feb. 18 at home in a Super Essex Conference-American Division contest. EOCHS led 21-11 at halftime, but Shabazz outscored the Jaguars, 16-9, in the third quarter and 12-5 in the fourth quarter. EOCHS beat Shabazz in the first divisional meeting, 75-59, Jan. 19 at Shabazz in Newark.
The Jaguars, seeded second, will host 15th-seeded Ridge in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 tournament on March 1. EOCHS last season won the Section 1, Group 4 title.
