EAST ORANGE, NJ – The East Orange Campus High School boys’ varsity basketball team, seeded 12th, defeated 33rd seed Golda Och Academy in the preliminary second round on Monday, Feb. 5. EOCHS will host No. 21 seed Verona in the preliminary third round in a game that must be played by Feb. 8. The winner will visit fifth-seeded West Orange HS in the first round on Saturday, Feb. 10.
In a ruling by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, EOCHS was forced to forfeit seven wins due to an ineligible player. One of the wins was against Orange HS in the ninth annual OHS M.L.K. Classic in which the Jaguars won 46-45, on a tip-in by Supreme Cook at the buzzer on Monday, Jan. 15.
In all, the team had to forfeit 15 games, which had resulted in seven wins and eight losses. EOCHS’ record is now 3-17. The team’s other legitimate wins are against University, 73-68, Jan. 25; and Newark Tech, 58-48, Feb. 1 in back-to-back games. Supreme Cook had 27 points; Daveon Davis and Maliki Gayton each had eight points; Issaih Poole had seven points and Mario Gunn had six points against Newark Tech.
