EAST ORANGE, NJ – The East Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated Orange High School, 54-53, in the Joe Silver Tournament at Hillside on Dec. 27.
Mario Gunn had 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks; Izaiah Poole had 13 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals and Justin Singh-Smith had 11 points and five rebounds for the Jaguars, who earned their first win of the season. It was Gabe Baltimore’s first win as head coach of the Jaguars. Kaleb Harmon also had five points in the victory.
Zakeem Burton had 25 points and Giovanni Paterkin had 12 for Orange. Kyle Robinson also had seven points for the Tornadoes, who fell to 0-5 on the season.
Two days later, EOCHS defeated Ferris, 66-40, in the tournament. Poole had 20 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals and Gunn had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Shelder Racine had 10 points; Xavier Stamps had nine points and Singh-Smith had eight points and six rebounds. The Jaguars improved to 2-5.
EOCHS fell to Dickinson, 53-50, Dec. 26 in the first day of the tournament. Orange lost to Irvington, 68-52, also on the first day of the tournament.
