EAST ORANGE, NJ — The East Orange Campus High School boys basketball team enjoyed a terrific season.
The Jaguars, under head coach Gabe Baltimore, finished with a 24-4 record, including winning the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division championship with a 14-0 mark in the division.
EOCHS, seeded No. 2, defeated Morristown before losing to Randolph in the North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state tournament to end the season.
Senior forward Justin Singh-Smith had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the 62-33 win over 15th-seeded Morristown in the first round on March 3 at home. Jalen Hammonds had 12 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals, senior guard Izaiah Poole had 11 points, senior guard Daveon Davis had nine points, five steals and three rebounds, junior guard Darren Coote scored six points, and senior guard Al-Jalil Hall and sophomore guard Kaleb Harmon each had three points.
Singh-Smith had 16 points and 13 rebounds, but the Jaguars lost a heartbreaking 49-48 loss to No. 7 seed Randolph in the quarterfinals on March 5 at home. Hammonds had 13 points, four rebounds and four assists, Poole had nine points and seven rebounds, Nasir Owens had six points, and Davis and Coote each had two points. Randolph improved to 21-7.
