EAST ORANGE, NJ — The East Orange Campus High School boys basketball team defeated Science Park High School and North Star Academy to end the regular season on a five-game winning streak.
The Jaguars, under head coach Gabe Baltimore, improved to 20-5 on the season.
Senior guard Eugene Byass had 12 points, five assists and three rebounds; senior guard Kaiyri Barkley had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists; and senior guard Gavin Jones had 11 points to lead the Jaguars to a 67-32 home win over Science Park on Wednesday, Feb. 14, in a Super Essex Conference crossover divisional game. Junior guard Carlyle Adams had 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists; senior guard Da’maree Dyer had 6 points and three steals; freshman guard James Roberts had 5 points; senior guard Kyree Fisher had 4 points and six rebounds; senior forward Melvin Okere had 4 points and freshman guard Stageon King added 2 points.
Barkley had 14 points and seven rebounds, Roberts had 11 points and seven rebounds, Adams had 10 points and nine rebounds and Byass had 9 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in the 56-40 home win over North Star Academy on Thursday, Feb. 15, in a SEC crossover divisional game. Jones had 5 points, Dyer had 4 points and Fisher had 3 points.
The Jaguars, seeded No. 3, were scheduled to host No. 14 seed Mount Olive in the first round of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 state tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 21. The winner will face either No. 11 seed Union City or No. 6 seed Hackensack in the quarterfinals on Monday, Feb. 26. Ridgewood is the No. 1 seed and Paterson Eastside is the No. 2 seed.
