East Orange Campus HS boys’ soccer team falls in penalty-kick shootout to Dickinson in section tournament first round

EAST ORANGE, NJ – The seventh-seeded East Orange Campus High School boys’ varsity soccer team lost to 10th-seeded Dickinson in a tough penalty-kick shootout in the first round of the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 tournament on Oct. 31 at home.

Both teams scored a goal in the first half. Shaun Gordon scored for the Jaguars, with an assist by Roshard Jervis. The game remained tied 1-1 after the second half. It was still 1-1 after two overtime periods, forcing a penalty-kick shootout. Dickinson won, 5-3, in the penalty-kick shootout.

The official result of the game was a tie as the Jaguars ended the  season with a stellar 12-2-1 record. This season, the Jaguars won the Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division championship for the third straight season.

In earlier action, Jervis had a goal and an assist to lead the Jaguars to a 2-0 home win over Columbia on Oct. 26. Gordon had a goal and Dave Cornet had one assist.

Amado Guira made eight saves.

Gordon had two goals and Jervis and Jerome Richards each had a goal in the 4-0 homewin over Technology on Oct. 28. Cornet, Jervis and Malik Mathes each had an assist. Guira made 12 saves.
