East Orange Campus HS boys’ track and field team is runner-up in Essex County Relays

The East Orange Campus High School boys’ track and field team took second overall at the Essex County Relays at Livingston High School, Friday, May 4.

The Jaguars had 73 team points, eight points behind winner Seton Hall Prep. The Jaguars were the two-time defending champion.

East Orange Campus won five events: the 4×100-meter relay in 42.33; the shuttle hurdles relay in 57.33; the 4×400 relay in 3:18.04; the sprint medley relay in 3:31.48; and the 400 team intermediate hurdles relay. The 4×200 also took second in 1:28.80 and the 4×800 took sixth in 8:32.59.

Akeem Lindo, Ibrahim Fobay, Malcolm Barnes and Al-Tariq Dunson broke their own meet record in the shuttle hurdles set from last year. The old mark was 58.16.

Dominic Dazzell, Fayeson Carney, Kashim Daniels and Al-Shadee Salaam ran the state’s top time in the 4×100.

In the team long jump, Lindo was first at 21-6 and Kwamivi Amedeya was 19th to combine for third place. In the team triple jump, Richard Brown was sixth at 43-5 and Mckinley Smith was 10th to combine for 10th place.

On the girls’ side, East Orange Campus finished ninth in the team standings. The 4×100 and 4×200 each took third and the 4×400 finished sixth. The team discus took fourth with Iyana Alexandre, who was fourth at 99-0, and Kaneshia Freeman. The team shot put also took fourth with Alexandra, who was second at 37-9.5, and Freeman.

The Orange High School girls’ team finished 11th in the team standings. Tatayanna Beckford was second in the javelin at 101-1 and eighth in the discus at 89-4. In the long jump, Joanna Marcelin was third at 16-2.75.

The Super Essex Conference Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, at Schools Stadium in Newark.
