East Orange Campus HS boys’ track team wins 3-peat SEC title

EAST ORANGE, NJ –  The East Orange Campus High School boys’ track and field team won the Super Essex Conference-American Division Championships meet title for the third year in a row. The meet was held at Schools Stadium in Newark on May 11.

The Jaguars had 119 points among the seven teams. Seton Hall Prep finished second with 106 points.

Akeem Lindo won both the 110-meter hurdles in 13.96 and the 400-meter hurdles in 53.93. In the 110-meter hurdles, Al-Tariq Dunson followed in second place in 14.16 and Ibrahim Fobay was third in 14.62. In the 400 hurdles, Fobay was second in 55.61 and Dunson was sixth in 59.87.

In the 100-meter dash, Al-Shadee Salaam was second in 11.05 and Dominic Dazzell was third in 11.06. Lindo was second in 22.09 and Salaam was third in 22.95 in the 200-meter dash. In the 400-meter dash, Kishaun Richardson was second in 49.78; Fayeson Carney was third in 51.03 and Keenan Bartley was fourth in 51.49. Richardson took fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:03.72. The 4×400-meter relay took third in 3:31.39.

In the high jump, Nasir Montgomery was fourth at 5 feet-6 inches and Quadir Scott was fifth at 5-6. In the triple jump, Malcolm Barnes was fourth at 41-0; Richard Brown took fifth at 40-8 and Mckinley Smith placed sixth at 40-6. Treymont Carter took second in the shot put at 50-8.

For the EOCHS girls’ team, Kevaray Gillette won both the 110 hurdles in 14.69 and the 400 hurdles in 1:03.76. Doreen Asante took fifth in the 400 dash in 1:00.36. Iyana Alexandre was second in the shot put at 38-3 ¼. The 4×400-meter relay finished fourth in 4:10.53. The EOCHS girls’ team finished last among the six teams. Montclair won the girls’ team title.

The Orange HIgh School track and field teams also competed on Friday, May 11, at Schools Stadium in the SEC-Liberty Championships.

For the OHS girls’ team, Joanna Marcelin won the triple jump at 36-5 and Shahyan Abraham won the shot put at 35-4. Caroline Prophete was second in the shot put at 32-11 ½. Tatayanna Beckford took second in the discus at 91-11 and fourth in the javelin at 107-2. The 4×400 relay finished third in 4:28.87. OHS finished fourth overall among the nine teams. West Essex won the team title.

For the OHS boys’ team, the 4×400 relay took fifth in 3:46.37 for the Tornadoes’ only points of the meet. Orange finished last among the nine teams. West Side won the team title.

The Essex County Championships will be held May 18-19 at Woodman Field in Montclair. The EOCHS boys’ team is seeking their fourth straight Essex County Championships title.
