EAST ORANGE – East Orange Campus High School senior defensive lineman Keneek Tomlinson recently committed to Monmouth University in accepting a full scholarship offer to continue his football career.
Tomlinson, a 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, was named the East team Defensive Player of the Game at the 23rd annual Paul Robeson High School All-Star Classic on June 13 at Paul Robeson Stadium in East Orange. Tomlinson had two sacks to lead the East team, comprising seniors from Essex County and eastern Passaic County, to a 16-12 win over the West team, comprising seniors from Morris, Sussex and western Passaic county.
Tomlinson and Orange High School defensive tackle Amir Copher will play in the 38th annual Phil Simms New Jersey North-South High School Football Senior All-Star Classic this Monday, June 27, at Kean University in Union at 7 p.m.
“We are very proud of Keneek,” said EOCHS head coach Al-Majid Hutchins, who will enter his second year at the helm and is a 2007 EOCHS graduate. “He’s a true testament of perseverance. From the first day he played football, all he wanted to do is go to college and have a opportunity to provide for his mother and father.
“His commitment to football as well as his school work secured him this opportunity today. To see his face light up with joy when he got the offer was one of our proudest moments as coaches. This is a guy who if he can continue to develop and stay healthy you will see playing on Sundays. Monmouth University football program is getting a excellent football player, but an even better person. Congratulations to our very own Keneek Tomlinson.”
