East Orange Campus HS girls’ basketball team defeats Nutley

EAST ORANGE – Senior guard Marvellous Osagie-Erese had 25 points and nine steals;  senior forward Jessica Woods had 21 points and 15 rebounds and sophomore center Moriyah Jordan had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the East Orange Campus High School girls’ varsity basketball team to a 72-56 win at Nutley on Jan. 12. The Jaguars improved to an 8-0 record.

Nutley senior guard Blair Watson, ranked as one of the top players in the country, scored 24 points on eight 3-pointers in the first half for Nutley, which trailed 36-34. But the Jaguars double-teamed Watson in the second half. The University of Maryland-bound Watson was held scoreless in the third quarter, and scored three points in the fourth quarter, all from the free-throw line, to finish with 27 points. Watson was selected to play in the 15th annual McDonald High School Girls Basketball All-American Game on March 30 at the United Center in Chicago.

In previous action, Osagie-Erese had seven points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals and eight assists; Woods had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Jordan had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the 56-43 win over Bergtraum, N.Y. on Jan. 9 at Paterson Eastside.
