East Orange Campus HS girls volleyball team digs up great start to season

EAST ORANGE, NJ — The East Orange Campus High School girls volleyball team has enjoyed a great start to the season.

The Jaguars, under head coach Eric Ansah, started the season at 3-0 and had a 4-2 record through Sept. 20. EOCHS defeated West Caldwell Tech, Elizabeth and Payne Tech before losing to Nutley in three sets. The Jaguars then defeated Barringer before losing to West Orange.

The Jaguars have received contributions throughout the lineup, which has been key to their success.

“We have lost two very key players last year, but this group is a very good team as a unit,” Ansah said. “We are a team of no superstars and not dominated by one particular player. We have those that are simply just doing the best job they can.

“We have won close games and even come back from an 18-24 score to win a set and that’s a testament to our ability to function as one unit and never giving up.”

Deva Ali and Sabriyyah Convington are the team’s outside hitters, doing a very solid job on hitting, Ansah lauded.

Ashante Rudolph and Britney Gibson the middles who control the net with solid blocking, while the heart of the team is libero Nya Carter and setter Victory Amede, Ansah said. “My libero is very aggressive and always plays her heart out every game,” Ansah said.
