EAST ORANGE, NJ — The East Orange Campus High School boys and girls indoor track and field teams enjoyed solid performances at the Essex County Individual Championships at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island on Feb. 19 and the North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 state championships on Feb. 22 at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
At the county championships, the girls team finished in fourth place overall in the girls team standings with 23 points based on the top-six finishes in each event. The boys team tied for fifth place with West Orange HS with 28 points. Montclair won both the boys and girls team titles. The Montclair girls had 103 points and the boys had 65 points.
Bianca Koudou took second place in the 400-meter dash to lead the EOCHS girls. Kwamivi Amedeya took second place in the 55-meter hurdles to pace the EOCHS boys.
At the sectional meet, the boys team took third overall in the boys team standings with 34 points. Passaic County Tech won the boys team title with 64 points and Montclair was second with 42 points.
Quasonn Jean-Baptiste took second in the 55 hurdles in 7.92, Amedeya was third in 8.10 and Keenan Bartley was fourth in 8.14. Matthew Parchment tok third in the high jump at 6 feet. Bartley was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 52.70. The 4×400-meter relay took third ini 3:34.81.
The girls team tied for seventh with North Bergen with 16 points. Ridgewood won the girls team title. Koudou was third in the 400 dash in 1:00.01 and Janaya Ross was fourth in 1:02.06. The 4×400 relay was third in 4:07.72.
The EOCHS top-six finishers in each event qualified for the Group 4 state championships on Feb. 29 at the Bennett Center.
